Too Cheap to Succeed ?

This is going to sound like a whinge of a post but I assure you it is not, it is, rather, a warning to anybody starting or attempting to start a blog as a way of making money spurred on by the many articles on the internet (usually other blogs like this one) claiming that it is a good way to turn spare time into a passive income, as I move further forward in this journey to what I am still convinced is achievable, the realities of this are becoming more and more obvious, and it isn’t rosy I can tell you.

I started this blog and all my activities at the start of this year, I have had many distractions and issues along the way but essentially the outcome is completely my own doing, I was too cheap with both time and money and spent too much time trying to find a way to post more and more content cheaply believing that quantity would alone see me through to a success, when in fact the opposite is true, we have all seen the constant posters re-cycling the same blog posts a few days or at most a week apart hoping that nobody would notice or that at least the views would attract more readers and hits and ad revenue, I wonder sometimes how successful they really are, now I can almost hear the cries of “but I do not do this for the money simply for the art” or the expression or to educate, in fact any lofty ethical reason they can hide behind shielding themselves from the fact that it really hasn’t made any money or even shows a glimmer of hope of doing so, preferring instead to keep hoping for that one article that goes viral or that captures enough people that they will do the advertising for them by sharing the post and exponentially increasing the reader numbers.

Anybody that wants to make money will add advertising to their site in one form or another, either through the annoying ads in the sidebar that you seed displayed all over this site (lol) or through their own affiliate links or simply through the promise of exclusive content for the exchange of a mailing with a Paypal donation link, it is all advertising as it is designed to illicit money from the reader, when people actually want to convey a message or provide a service (in whatever form that takes) to the general public completely free of charge and simply to educate and help they do not advertise as there is no need to add a distraction, they do not include garish advertisements for the reader to click on as this would detract from the message they are trying to impart.

But putting the advertising on the site is far from enough, in fact it is not even enough to be counted as the beginning, the beginning is the idea it is the focus of the blog, people will spend money this is not a surprising fact and with the reach of the internet there are a lot of people that can spend a lot of money with you and make you very rich but they aren’t going to give it away, you and your corner of the internet are not a charity (unless you are of course) and you cannot expect money for nothing.

Real Money

I am so fond of the phrase “Real Money” that sometimes it even gets under my skin, I say it nearly everyday in nearly every conversation that I have about money and for the sake of repetition I will say it again here, there is money and there is MONEY and to be honest very rarely shall the twain ever meet, what I mean is that when we say somebody has money we are invariably saying this in response to the visible assets that a person has, their car, house, clothes and to a greater or lesser extent their leisure activities, we evaluate based on a surface reflection of a snapshot of their life, and when they have a nice car and a big house and we wave them off on the next international adventure or follow their Instagram posts with green eyed envy we see what we want to see, success and money, but it is at night when these people are alone that the real story is told, you see money has a way of taking control of thoughts and feelings, it squeezes out loved ones and relationships and ultimately it chokes the life out of us and we find ourselves drowning in a sea of debt that there is no escape from, at night when the car is parked outside the house or the holiday activities are over and the rest of the family are asleep is where the dread of the next credit card bill comes in, the feeling of that slow march toward retirement with no savings starts to suggest that it is time you stopped spending all this money on interest payments to credit providers and started trying to master money, after all people do it and you are no different right? having money actual money under control and working for you as opposed to the other way round is all of the above without the feeling of dread and fear creeping in at night, it is the handing over of the debit card instead of the credit card for holidays and luxury goods, it is the sitting down and studying your money at the end of the month with a smile and a coffee just to see how things are going and how much you can invest this month rather than sitting down with a Gin and a Valium and hoping there is enough to stop you having to borrow more just to prop up the nice car and house, it is the enjoyed kiss from a partner at night and whatever may follow as opposed to the awkward good night and rolling over with both of you wondering what you have done to upset the other, it is the tolerance with children as they learn and grow breaking things and making mistakes along the way, as opposed to freaking out and going way over the top at every pen mark we find on the couch that costs us £150 a month is finance payments, money has the ability to help us grow and provide a life for future generations long after we have gone or it has the power to pull a family apart and destroy the future for generations, remember ultimately we become the product of our parents, If you think about a lot of your habits and personality traits now you will realise that most if not all stem from learned behaviour in our childhoods.

Other Peoples Blogs

Firstly a word about mine, I have been doing it for around a year now and am coming up to nearly my 100th post, the maths itself does not add up to a whole load of commitment does it ? so far it is earned me the princely sum of $0.38c, I am not going to retire on this and I do not expect it to grow much more without some kind of catalysing event, but I do have faith, I have faith in numbers and the numbers on the internet are huge, it is true that with the internet age ANYBODY can make a million, but it is also true that very few ever will.

So I did a simple Google search for successful WordPress blogs, and found a fantastic site here that has an almost unique field within their table of success EXPENSES seriously take a look, the information on here is worthy of just being posted out as a link rather than just as a part of this longer article which I am not sure anybody will have made it down to this point anyhow, and this is literally the reason why my blog sucks ass and (although I cannot speak for anybody else) the reason why a lot of people struggle month after month make no money and give up, the sites listed here make enough money for the people to do it as a job, sit at home or wherever they choose, write and then let the Internet take the strain, and the magic ingredient is EXPENSES, they are all spending money to make money, an example is Pat Flynn, 8 years he has been at it and his reported income for December 2017 ? $167,553.31, his expenses for this month $39.647.21 and his profit (before the dreaded Taxman obviously) an amazing $127.906.10 and when you see the website it is obvious why, the attention to presentation, the fact that his courses are available in both video and written on the blog, this probably means that he has a reasonable income from YouTube as well, They are all on there, Cookery Blogs, Entrepreneur blogs and of course Affiliate Marketing Blogs, and here I am with my 38c, I do not even have a business plan subscription and due to lack of activity my Amazon Affiliates account is suspended, this is because I failed to invest in my own project and my own future.

How to Invest ?

Investing comes on many forms, and most of these we are unwilling to do, we have to spend time researching content, or trying new things out so we can report our findings in a manner that provides value to others, as something of no value has no value and how can you expect to get paid for something that has no value?

You need to invest money, the plan I have does not allow plugins, so I cannot carry out any SEO for my site, none, I write articles like this and hope that people will stumble across them through reader or something like that, and they do, I have an amazing (for my investment level) 162 followers , but with the correct SEO and the ability to get hits from Google organically there would a thousand times that if not more just based on the sheer numbers of people searching for the subject matter I write about.

And you need to invest commitment, if work obligations dictate that you can only do one or two posts or articles a week then commit to that and make those two articles the best researched that you can, go into the ins and outs and the ups and downs and provide a real body if information or guidance to your audience that they can connect with and more importantly that they will want to bookmark and come back to, or even better subscribe.

And finally invest YOU, don’t write about something just because you think it is going to be popular or because it seems lucrative for the moment, writing is about more, it is more personal, and if the words come from a genuine passion or a genuine desire to help others and impart information people will listen.

Conclusion

I have ranted on at length about a lot of failings within blogging and trying to make a passive income on the internet through blogging, the fact is there is no such thing as a passive income through blogging unless you get somebody else to do it for you, but the is a massive difference between having to start writing at 5am before you go to work and being able to sit down at home after dropping the kids off at school and writing what you want in an unhurried manner, or if you don’t have kids fitting your writing in around going to the gym or whatever it is that you can now afford to do, Blogs are still way of making a very good income, you just have to rpovide something worth buying, and never fall into the trap of thinking that “If you build it they will come” cos they may turn up but if they leave without buying into your message you will be just as skint as you were yesterday and a lot more tired.

Procrastination is the single biggest hurdle most of us face, in this quick post I found an interesting article on how to avoid it, essentially my plan is for the foreseeable future to make sure that where practical I put action into thoughts, instead of trying to find ways to put thoughts into action.

Amazon Seller – free guide to get started.

There are hundreds of courses out there to help you become an Amazon seller and on the whole they cost thousands to access, I know that you only get out of life what you put in but that does not mean we need to over extend ourselves or use money unnecessarily to learn something that can be picked up for free, sure if you were to be paying a couple of hundred pounds for a course then it would probably save you that much in errors further down the line, but when we start talking four and five thousand dollars then I really do think you would have to really screw up on a monumental scale to even up the balance.

I am not saying that these courses are all worthless, I am just pointing out that they are expensive and the majority of us have been driven to look for a side hustle or a change in income streams through lack of available funds, not through and abundance of money and boredom.

So I started looking around to see if there were any free reliable alternatives to some of the expensive courses, and I found this site https://tinuiti.com/blog/amazon/sell-on-amazon-uk/ the guide seems really thorough and one of the first things that I noticed was that I actually had no idea of the prerequisites of opening a seller account on Amazon, I also found another site as an alternative to Junglescout this is https://sellics.com they not only have a 14 day trial offer but they have some free resources including keyword search for your chosen products.

Another challenge I have is the US centric nature of this business, so I will be spending some time researching how much of an impact this will actually have on me as a UK resident and if there are any workarounds to those issues.

Turns out there are, in future posts I will going through setting up my seller account from a UK perspective and hopefully making a profit.

That’s all for now…….

Take your time – but use each minute to it’s limit

There are a lot of mixed messages out on the internet and indeed in the traditional media, we are encouraged by some financial Guru’s to take our time, try not to get rich quick because it is a fallacy, while others bellow from neon lit stages that speed and persistence is the key, move fast and make mistakes and ultimately you can come up with an idea that tomorrow will make you a millionaire.

I have spent a lot of time considering both and I can honestly say that neither extreme is true, the idea of waiting for the moment when you no longer have to worry about money for what could possibly be years is not a pleasant one, and constantly finding the holes in the “get rich quick” schemes also leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

Personally I have suffered at my own hand in the regard because I got caught up in the race to find the one thing that would make me rich tomorrow, the one thing that I am constantly being told is out there and if I just work hard enough I can get it, I started down a path and then abandoned it after the first hurdle, without really giving it the time to become anything, and only now can I say that I learned a lesson from an abandoned project that no Guru or marketing expert could ever have taught me.

I started this blog for two reasons, one, I wanted to help others like me who were looking to improve theirs and their families lives in every respect, people who had more than one thing to fix, and didn’t have the funds to chase down every dream offered for a price in a YouTube advert, and two, to build something that would bring in revenue, not through hard selling or fabrication but simply by using something or finding a resource that was valuable and then offering it for sale (usually through Amazon) for an affiliates commission, so a simple exchange of knowledge for the revenue that popularity can bring.

But it didn’t take off how I would like, I had seen (and indeed read) several articles and books on blogging and how if you get it right you can make it a good second income and if done professionally you can make it your primary income, and a good one at that, and I made 22 cents, not even enough to have WordPress send me a cheque, so I got disheartened, went back to dreading getting up on a morning and driving into work without the promise of a better life to come.

But I was still watching the videos as they were coming through on notification, and I was still looking for ways to make extra money.

Without any kind of interaction ( This is my first post in nearly a month ) this blog started to get more followers, people were still looking at it and they were liking my posts, until I could no longer ignore the obvious, I had started something, I had made the beginnings of a business that was capable of returning cash without any intervention at all, and the amount that it returned was directly proportional to the amount of effort I put in.

The point of this is that yes, you should be prepared to wait for the big payday, the popularity or the sales that you crave because things take time, they always have and despite the loud protestations of certain “influencers” they always will, but with the right content or products, and enough thought you can create a business that will eventually reward you with as much or as little effort as you choose to put in, and that business will stay on the internet forever more if you so choose, the pivotal moment is to realise that getting rich slow does not mean sitting back and taking it easy, it is more a state of mind that protects you from the disappointment of not becoming an overnight millionaire, it means making every minute that you are pursuing your side hustle and trying to build that financial freedom count, it means instead of a Netflix marathon when the kids go to bed, sit down and work, change things, run with every idea just in case, and don’t make the mistake I made, once you start something see it through, if it is just failing then cut it loose and go on with something else but you owe it to yourself and whoever else you had in mind when you started pursuing money to see it through until that decision becomes obvious.

I know it seems like stating the obvious but I got caught out by it and I didn’t want anybody else to because the time that I could have been posting or trying products, or looking for other ways to sell products and make the money that I set out to is gone now and I can’t get it back.

Following on – “Now I’m Not Saying………”

I wanted to follow on from the rant that I had yesterday regarding certain individuals on YouTube and Instagram taking the time out of my hands as they pitch their way through all the free B******t to get to the upsell, I am not saying that you can not make money any other way, I am simply saying that Shopify Stores, Amazon Affiliates, FBA, and Drop Shipping are not the way to go (in my opinion) they are tired and oversubscribed and yes the people on the screen probably did make a lot of money from them, but this was because they got in at the bottom, look at them all, most of the Bio’s contain the phrase I struggled for ages until I discovered this one system, the system is not rocket science, they did not discover the wheel or fire, they simply made use of the tools that were created at that time, and from what I have heard these people owe most of their wealth to Jeff Bezos rather than to their brilliant acumen, there is of course nothing wrong with that but, if we stop for a moment, they can make thousands every day from a beach in Mexico, (another popular tagline) but instead they want to share this secret with you so you can mimic their success, problem is there is no “secret” anymore, my 9 year old daughter has alibaba app on her iPhone, and the same people watching your adverts and your facebook posts are also watching the Guru’s, this means that their desperate attempts to draw people in is also one of the huge contributors to why your drop shipping or your Shopify will fail, and to be fair the human race just isn’t that giving when it comes to money, I know that is difficult to swallow but it isn’t, the reason these courses (I use the term lightly) are being pushed is because they know that the space is becoming crowded and less profitable.

When I think of the time that I spent watching these videos, listening to the same advice over and over and setting up accounts it makes me seethe, instead I could have been researching how to finance a property business, learn how to build websites, coding or 100 other things that end with a product, You want to make money? then make something, build a product and use the Internet to it’s best advantage to market that product, or to make people aware that you have property to rent, or you have a service that will make their life easier.

Think about this, the world thanks to the Internet is a smaller place, barriers are broken down now in most places, if you built a property business you could live anywhere and provide homes or buy and sell anywhere in the world, I will explain how.

  • Website – Websites are available 24/7 365, and can be translated into any language automatically so you can be seen anywhere at anytime, with Twillio you can even get a local phone number that routes straight to your mobile anywhere in the world you have signal.
  • Property – Same the other way round, you can use local estate agents to find property and Google maps to even have a look around the surrounding area, there are also crime reports for most areas available online too.
  • Viewings – The Gig economy means that now you can for not much cash arrange for somebody to act as an agent in another part of your country or another country altogether if need be, no permanent employees just a one off cost, to be fair the estate agent will do the most work for you.
  • Management – Management companies exist everywhere that rental properties do, due diligence will give you an idea of the quality of the agency and if you just buy / sell then even better.

Now that was literally written in five minutes off the top of my head, so it would need some more consideration (probably quite a lot more) but you get my point, that is not rocket science, put it in a course and label it “Start a Million Dollar Global Property Business from Your Front Room” charge $999 dollars for it and BAM!

Of course it won’t work for most and you would have to skirt over the downsides to it as you wouldn’t want anybody to not pay.

My point really was that if you want money I mean Real Money create something of value and use the Internet as a vehicle to push that value, most of these courses will line pockets and bank accounts but seldom the course attendees.

Till next time……..

The very best online business – money will come pouring in

Believe it or not this is not actually a joke clickbait headline, I really have worked out the best way to make money online and I will share it with you in due course.

But first we need to talk about the elephant in the room, the thing that is only ever talked about in the fine print of all these courses offered online by any number of slick looking Gurus “results not guaranteed”, I started looking for a way to make money online around the same time as I started this blog, in fact it was part of my mission statement when beginning and introducing myself to the wider world, I shared a belief (that I still hold) that everybody should endeavour to be the best they can be, physically, mentally and financially, and in fact it is really common to see that you do not find one of the trio without at least one of the other two, this isn’t to satisfy Instagram or to be able to put two fingers up at people that teased you at school or a parent who told you you were worthless, no it is because you deserve it, as does everybody else, you deserve to live the best life you can and be as happy and comfortable as you can be, and having at least two of the three points means that life is easier and achieving the third is all that more possible.

That was four months ago, and I am still no closer to receiving penny one of any online earned money, because nothing has ever proved to be worthy of investment, I have attended “live” webinars, I have followed adverts to the very end to receive the free guide to email marketing or whatever and I have always found myself in the same familiar loop of an upsell to another course, usually in the thousands of dollars, it really is no wonder that these people are millionaires, but absolutely nothing that was anything more than selling the course that I was buying.

There are some who say that the Internet has provided more ways for people to become rich than there has ever been before, and I guess in a way that is probably right, but you need an idea, you need something of value and use the Internet to sell that something of value, simply paying for somebody to teach you how to do affiliate marketing is not going to make you an affiliate marketer anymore than shouting fuck a lot and wearing a woolly hat will make you Gary Vee, and frankly some of the ideas that people try and sell are just dangerous, from hijacking peoples buisness adverts to re-directing there business calls and then asking for a percentage, creating cheap knocked up video adverts and getting ranked first for a video search on google then phoning and asking for money based on this achievement.

All these and many more equally stupid ideas are broadcast hourly into our consciousness by YouTube and Instagram and even Blogs, like this one, they are noise, complete and utter noise and worse than that they are scams and costly ones, I did have a moment though where I thought what if? and I watched a video by a guy claiming that you could make $3 to $5 dollars and hour “hands off” watching videos at a website, I tried it, I even added it to a blog post and invited people to go and have a look, you see 3-5 Dollars is not a great amount but if it is per hour and you can earn it without having to spend time doing something then it is not to be turned down, that would be like me calling you and saying I would like to give you $4 an hour (for arguments sake) for doing nothing at all and you saying no, you just wouldn’t, I don’t think anybody would it is money for nothing, however it was not without it’s issues, firstly the 3-5 was more like 6 pence, in fact it was 6 pence, the video makers suggestion that you could open many tabs also fell flat on it’s face as the website detects you are doing this and cuts the video streams, in fact you could only open 10 at most, and the mathematics just does not add up, because 10 times 6 is 60p and that would have to be one hell of a conversion rate to make that work!

No this was another example of offering something free to simply upsell based on a feeling of established trust with the provider, you see he offers you this for free, it won’t make you rich but if you have no money at all you can do this right now to make some and then try the big money making idea that he has later with all your passively earned income , accept it doesn’t work out you are still skint but everything he said was true, well it was true-ish, I mean you didn’t make the $4 an hour but you did make some, and yeah you can cash out by PayPal but only after you have taken $50 in vouchers or some such rubbish first, but he was honest and he did say he was making a lot of money doing this other thing, you have a look and get out the $599 dollars it costs for that course because he is a good guy.

The pitch is as old as the hills, as is the self deprecating pitch, “don’t believe me? I wouldn’t either after all you don’t know me but…….” is also everywhere reeling desperate people in because they empathise with your natural cynicism, this is what has bothered me the most and prompted me to write this post, hopefully making people think twice before supporting the lifestyles of these most useless of members of society.

It Must Work for Some, Surely?

Yes it does, or more accurately yes it did, you see there is a myth that the Internet is infinite, and as I have discussed before while that is far from true it also doesn’t mean that you cannot still become mega rich from it, so lets take a case of Pewdiepie, he started in 2006 when YouTube had just 65,000 uploaded videos and 10 million users a month, and he now earns 8 million a month, so it can be done right? what if I told you that YouTube now has 300 hours of video uploaded every minute 24 hrs a day 365 days a year, with 5 billion viewed a day between 30 million users, you see no matter how big something is you can fill it, and Mr Kjellberg is not going to step aside to allow you to make a name for yourself, and don’t look to Google to shoot one of their Golden Geese to help a struggling YouTuber, it doesn’t seem quite so attainable now does it ? in fact it is not, despite what people will tell you, why shouldn’t Pewdiepie tell you just to be yourself and you will get the views, what has he got to lose? to be honest 8 million a month if he is right!

Avoid These Like the Plague

  1. Survey schemes – there is no better way to waste your time for no gain at all than taking part in 99 percent of online-surveys, they are useless at best and just information gathering at worst, and there is never any money at the end of it just gift cards or points that can be exchanged when you have a hundreds of them.
  2. Watch videos/ads for money – think about it for a minute advertisers pay like $5 for a thousand views, so how much is the company likely to pay you to watch them ?
  3. Live webinar invites – So far I have not seen a single genuine one, honestly not one, they are all just pre-recorded and sitting on a server making the true definition of “passive income” for the Guru that snares you to watch it, if only one or two out of the hundreds that go on to watch it sign up for the equally pre-recorded course then that is possibly as much as 2 or 3 k every hour and a half of nearly every day, not bad for spending a couple of hours making a video.
  4. Anybody that starts by saying this not a get rich quick scheme – if they don’t have enough respect for their potential audience to think that they already know that, then it is simply a pathetic attempt to make you think they are being genuine.

There are more, people claiming to make millions each week but sitting in their mums basement on a cheap webcam, bundles of cash lying around a crappy office that looks like it is falling down, or when you can just see the edge of the green screen that the Lamborghini is being CGI’d in with.

And for the ones that have got the money, I would love to know if they made their millions before or after they filmed the courses, you see it really isn’t that difficult, and the course content for the most part is simply, find something to sell, create and advert, put it in front of customers and make money, you then wrap a lot of screenshots and lengthy vague explanation around it all tied up with a disclaimer and you are good to go, price it at an outrageous price but offer it for half that and of course there are limited places because of the demand and that they want to retain the integrity of the system.

So the Money Making System ?

Simple, have a think, come up with a plan no matter how insane or unlikely to succeed and document it either with an ebook (easy to sell) or a YouTube channel and charge as much as you want for it, spend a little on advertising and it’s all good.

This may all sound a little bitter but I have spent an inordinate amount of time going down these various rabbit holes and I actually resent it, after all it’s my time, and I am trying to create more of it not piss it away listening to these snake oil salesmen, and to be honest I could have spent it learning skills or creating a business that can actually grow, I will be removing the advert for the video watching because it is worthless and I hope that this blog at least stops somebody from giving time or money to these parasites.

End of the Affiliate Journey – For now at least

Possibly not the update that anybody was expecting, but life has a funny way of telling you things, small signs here and there that the direction you are taking is not the best path, I have spent some considerable time now with the Affiliate Marketing and the initial idea, which was to use paid for Facebook ads to promote a product and use Clickbank to get paid for doing so.

Things to consider when starting

  1. This is not going to be for free, Websites, YouTube videos and Guru’s sometimes try to push this message and it is fundamentally wrong, this business requires just one ingredient Traffic and this traffic needs to have some value, as in it needs to be directed, simply throwing 1000 unqualified leads at a landing page is highly unlikely to get any result, and traffic costs my friend, either in your time to build up a following on social media or in cash to by advertisements.
  2. The second thing is really an extension of the first point and was ultimately my undoing at this time, you will still need Time and quite a measurable amount too, think about it, you have to create landing pages, creatives and static ads (these can be done for free) and then place them and monitor the spending, as a side note you will notice that the majority of the success stories start with the phrase “I lost my Job” or “when I was eighteen” or some such other narrative that when you scratch beneath the surface implies that they started with a lot of time on their hands.
  3. Nearly all of the videos on YouTube are only half of the story, and in fact I would say it’s not even half more like one quarter, I promise that the curse of the blank page is nothing compared to staring at a video ad looping over and over and not knowing how to make it feel right and professional, and hiring somebody to do it is more money.

One of the conclusions I came to was this, the vast majority of the affiliate programs are centred around selling more affiliate training programs, I actually have a moral issue with this as it adds no value to peoples lives, These are nothing more than pyramid schemes in my opinion and ultimately although they can make money for some they do not for the vast majority of people involved.

I am not saying that affiliate programs are not viable in any way, I have links on this website to books that if anybody bought through me I would receive money, it would not make me rich but it would be earned simply as a by-product of something I enjoy doing, and as the reach of the website increases the scope for more people to see the links and click them also increases, this provides potential return on one time effort, and this is probably as close to Passive Income as it is possible to get.

Summary

In summary I feel it only right to say that the path to affiliate marketing that I started to take is best described as cynical, it would have worked with a larger budget and a smaller moral stance, quick money can be made this is true, but quick money is Small money, along the way I have spent time listening to giants of business and investing and a lot of their words have rung true with me, I understand the need for a side hustle if you have a day job as this is the only way to start on the road to financial freedom as all too often we start looking for money when we have grown out of our current income, and I also understand and would happily advise anybody that has the time and the freedom to dedicate every waking moment to affiliate marketing should do so, success stories are not always a tissue of lies to extract your hard earned money, a good amount of the time they are true and a reflection of what that person managed to achieve with their particular circumstances, just remember that their circumstances are NOT yours and you need to evaluate carefully what you can sacrifice in order to reach your goal, I am going to move toward the side hustle and will happily share any successes I have with you all on here, as well as getting on with the other side of the traineesuperhuman, the fitness and life motivation.

Till next time, run as fast as you can but make sure you have the right road!

Work this affiliate stuff out for free (or very little)

So after yesterdays rant, I thought I would continue in the same vein, it has really started to get to me the more I look at it that these millionaires charge so much money to teach our grandmothers to suck eggs! I mean for the love of god…..

So I have put together literally all you need to know about the first stage which is Clickbank, I say Clickbank because it is the one I have an account with and it is one of the oldest and it hasn’t been closed down by any government agency for being fraudulent, however for the sake of balance there is also.

Amazon Associates
Rakuten
Affiliate.com

The above are three of the biggest and all were found by a google search and cost nothing to discover, I would also venture that once you delved deeper they would also cost nothing to join and promote the hell out of whatever takes your fancy.

Menu on Clickbank

However, once you have signed up for Clickbank (I had already done this and I did not think to document it) you make it into your account area and after confirming your email address for what seems like the millionth time you are presented with a screen that has all the basic information you might require in it, and a menu running across the top.

This menu is extremely self explanatory and you should start to have a click around while here to get a feel of the site and how it works.

Once you have done this it is time to pick something that you want to promote so, if you click Marketplace you are taken to another page that has the different Niches listed along the left hand side and these contain the different sectors from which you can pick a product or service to promote, there is a something to be aware of here and that is the Gravity rating again this is a fairly simple concept as it basically is the higher the number the more people are promoting that product right now and making money from it, the internet it would seem does not favour the brave soul selling umbrellas in the height of summer and sun tan lotion in the deep dark of winter, so look for the highest Gravity and start with that.

You can see that in the screenshot above I have ringed the two options you are looking for, namely the Gravity (top left) and the promote button (top right in blue) this is pretty much much what you are looking for, other terms are outlined below.

  • Initial sale – This is the average dollar value to the affiliate that drives the sale, so what you are likely to receive per sale.
  • Avg %Sale – This is the average or a sale including initial and rebill
  • Avg %rebill – The average total dollar value for rebill only

Once you have slid you sliders to where you want to start looking then you can hit the red promote button and be taken to this screen.

Hoplink (Affiliate Link)

This is your link that you must embed in your advertising for the system to track the sales that came from you, there is an option here as before selecting to get your hoplink to add an optional keyword to your tracking that would also be unique to you, this is useful if you want to create multiple hoplinks for the same product and track different advertising methods to see which perform the best.

Then crack on and create your advert !

Here is one I actually did, really quickly with GIMP editor and some free images, as you can see it really is not that good but I will explain why that is not important in a later post, you see it works as well, if you click it, it will take you too a paid survey sign up landing page (not mine).

Now this is literally all there is to starting on your journey, are you now rich, hell no and most certainly not with an advert that looks like that, by the way the advert above is the recommended Facebook dimensions of 1200×628 if anybody is interested.

It has cost nothing, GIMP is free, the image was free and my time at the moment is free, because there is nothing else financially productive I could be doing right now.

I will go into the various advertising programs and so on and continue my quest into affiliate marketing in future posts but for now, know two things, we can make this journey on our own and spend the thousands that we would on courses on advertising and traffic generation, or maybe just our kids and having a good time, and if your ADs suck ass like mine above your click rate will be pants!!!!!!.

Till next time..
