Hey Hey Progress update – read all about what I screwed up this time!

So I have sold something, no not my soul, although if there are any takers (Mega Lolz).

No I actually sold a product, 2 to be precise, and have learned a lot since I last posted, these were hard lessons for me and to be fair they probably won’t be that easy to hear, but if successful you can drown your sorrows in piles of cash!

Harsh Lessons In List Form.

  1. You are not the magical marketer you think you are, unless you are selling products so quick you can’t pack them, something is wrong, I didn’t know S**t as it turned out and that is why my marketing sucked, stop, take a good look at the competition and work out what they are doing.
  2. Just because you would buy product from yourself doesn’t mean anybody else will, this little fact was very harsh, I thought I was great but no, I had to spend time learning what people actually wanted.
  3. Nobody is going to help you unless there is something in it for them, OK not everybody but most, after all every post I do provides a linkback to my shop so even I am not doing this for free!
  4. There are a million ways to skin a cat, but only one way to get noticed in a sea of people all trying to make money online, shout louder than them, but don’t spam as it will damage you beyond recognition.
  5. Instagram is good, but you need numbers, sorry but the 500 followers you have don’t mean s**t, take a moment to look up Gary Vee on the subject, I did and followed his advice and started growing users exponentially, still not rich though! bummer hey?
  6. Don’t whatever you do give up, I work 18 to 20 hours a day and haven’t made a cent, but I have hope and with hope anything is possible.

Conclusion

So there it is, all I have learned in the past week, harsh lessons but valuable, keep trying, don’t lean on anybody cos they will buckle, and make your business a success!

Does anybody read posts ? Read on and see.

Does anybody read posts these days, did they ever for that matter? I tried to find out in my previous post by putting a free offer in the lower part of the post should anybody choose to comment, nobody did I have look at why I think that is and fill you in the latest GFPharma news!

Discovery of issue

In my previous post I put, at the end, as an experiment, the offer of a free bottle of vitamins from my new supplement company, this was done essentially to see if anybody actually read all the way to the bottom and so far nobody has taken me up on my offer,

That’s disappointing

So what does this tell me?  it tells me that the vast majority of people that read the posts aren’t actually reading the  posts,  of course it could also mean is that nobody really wants to take me up on my offer of free vitamins from my company, however I’m hoping that’s not the case because if it is that does not bode well for any future business.

I still Appreciate the views and the likes!

While I appreciate the views and the likes the problem with this is it indicates the vast majority of posts that are published on to WordPress (at least in my case) and I venture any other social platform for that matter are hardly ever read, now whilst this may sound like I’m taking this personally and that I am complaining people aren’t reading all the way to the bottom, it is something that we need to be aware of in marketing, because the same will be for my posts as yours and the ones that you read, if the generally recognized action is to simply skim over the title and then like the post in order to get onto the the list of people that have liked the post to promote your own profile, it doesn’t really benefit anybody, I get some views but I don’t get ad impressions because nobody was actually on the website so I don’t get any revenue I don’t get to pass on what I’ve said through all my message and ultimately I don’t get too forward what I’m doing the blog for.

This isn’t going to be some long rant about how we manage to get people to read all of our posts, it is simply observation of the fact that I could probably have made any offer on that post in the secure knowledge that it would never be taken up.

Persistence is the Answer

However, I will happily continue to create posts and share as much knowledge  as I can, I am assuming (rightly or wrongly) that the reason for the lack of full attention from many readers is basically due to my lack of authority within the consumer space, what I mean by this is with my very small amount of followers currently at 220 I believe,  I am happy to accept that I am not seen as an authority on anything where as people with more followers say 2000 or 3000 will be seen as worth reading all the way through.

And following from the  previous post, not the earn $1,000 a month post, this was another experiment based around checking to see how many people are looking for the quick route as opposed to working for the successes online,  and to be fair that last post actually garnered a lot more views and likes in a shorter time frame than the one prior to it, I will provide an update.

GFPharma Update

The plot unfortunately, with GFR Pharma thickens,  one problem we appear to have is the absence of the ability to accept payments through PayPal, we set up a PayPal account previously for the company but for some reason something has gone wrong, given the recent events around covid-19, it is becoming very difficult to contact any support within PayPal unless I wait for 5 and 1/2 hours on the phone, this is of course something that I haven’t got the ability to do due to time constraints.

Marketing Tip Shopify

There are are multiple sales channels available within Shopify,  but they all have their own unique dependencies and one of the unique dependence specifically for eBay, is the ability to accept payments through PayPal,  I believe this is based around eBay’s rather aggressive returns policy and PayPal’s equally aggressive refund policy,  wherein essentially eBay will refund the customer and then follow up on the arbitration as to who was actually to blame  for any issues that were raised as part of the purchase.

Onward and upward

We will carry on and we will work out the problems with PayPal and ultimately get that sales channel working my advice, is to not expect everything to go completely smoothly for What It’s Worth, I think the sales channels within Shopify are brilliant they work really slickly when they work, they provide a “ single pane of glass”  view into Facebook,  Google, eBay, and other social networking sites, allowing you through the use of API’s to construct and deploy marketing campaigns to the sites, the linking in the background can be a little finicky and it has to be admitted has taken myself and my partner a few attempts to get right,  the biggest single piece of advice I can give anybody is to completely document what accounts are linked to what and where the permissions lie,  during the course of setting up the sales channels we opened several accounts using the credentials we thought we needed to use, and ended up almost in a cycle of things not working because certain permissions were in place, if we had documented it from the start we would have been able to follow our documentation going back over the things we have done to see where the problems were, this literally was a case of not planning well enough.

Plan as if your life depends on it – it does!

By planning what I mean is don’t just run headlong into starting an online business it is not as easy as the gurus on YouTube will tell you,  the people that make it in online businesses don’t simply sit on sun loungers on a beach in Mexico tapping away at the keyboard making millions, it really doesn’t happen immediately,  as I am so fond of saying, I’ve said in many previous posts the ability to actually do that, to sit on that beach in Mexico, to make millions, and to enjoy a relaxed life where you are living as I see everybody should, by which I mean free of money stress it takes a lot of planning in a lot of groundwork,

Plan everything from the start, plan what you want to sell how you want to sell it where you want to sell it who you want to sell it to how they are going to see it where they’re going to see it what they going to do to interact with it how you’re going to get billed for that interaction, because absolutely nothing in life is free and don’t ever think for a second that it is,  is and write it all down so that you can reference it as in when you need to because once you’ve done that you’ll find it working forward progressing your business advertising to your customers will be a lot quicker more efficient and provide a bigger return on investment based on the fact that you don’t have to completely reconsider every time you do something what you’re doing it for trying to reach and how.

As always good luck with all your endeavors, I will be back with another post tomorrow hopefully and hopefully good news,  but meanwhile I’m going to continue on with trying to work out all the kinks and the problems and one day, just one day maybe I might just make it.

100% Free Training to make money, NO BS!

In my previous post I spoke about the importance that I place on Google as a way to advertise your business or your service.

However, it should be noted that when you start looking at adsense, AdWords, Analytics, it can all get very very confusing very very quickly, in fact actually just looking at the dashboards alone can leave you wondering what to click and where to look.

The purpose of this post is not to provide any kind of training but simply to point you in the direction of free training, 100-percent free training is provided through Google, to help you navigate all of the applications and services that are going to help you ultimately build your business.

The training is from skillshop and is, as I say through Google, believe me if you are ever going to take part in any free training this is the place to do it,  very few people actually have a vested interest in your business succeeding over theirs and this is no different, where this differs from the hundreds of YouTube videos, Instagram posts, so-called gurus that want to charge you $2,000 for a one-hour course,  is that it’s in Google’s vested interests that you succeed, the more you succeed the greater their value as a company.

I have spoken at length about my disdain for the marketing gurus of this world, and I do realise that some of my readership are marketing gurus or are on my market is and that’s fine, within this industry, and by this industry I mean the advertising industry more specifically the online advertising industry, there are really only two or three groups of people there are the people that have made it, the people that are trying to make it, it and the people that don’t stand a chance.

People that have made it

I’m always a little suspicious of the people that have made it, they always come across as just a little bit trying to rub your nose in their extreme wealth.

That isn’t to say they’re bad people, it’s simply to say that I’m unsure of the value of seeing someone who has the money and the time that money brings, extolling the virtues of what you need to do to make money.

A lot of the advice often seems to centre around meditation, yoga, relaxation and a whole host of other things that take a long time to do, fact is there is only 24 hours in every single day so when these millionaire  gurus are suggesting that you spend every waking hour working on your future, the one thing they are missing is the fact that the majority of people sat watching their videos don’t have the time, the most time that the average person is going to be able to spend pursuing a second source of income, is probably nearer 4 or 5 hours a day,  this is because the vast majority of people that have decided that they are going to need a second source of income and are therefore searching on YouTube for these people’s videos are probably around about middle-aged, probably have children or other dependents and probably have a job, you can’t quit your job, this literally something I wouldn’t suggest although it does seem to be the basis for the amount of time that these groups suggest you can spend pursuing your business ideas.

The People trying to make it

The people that are trying to make it however, are an interesting Bunch because these actually fall into two subgroups there are the people that are genuinely trying to make it and the passing on information as they go, and there are the people that know they’re not going to make it however, they are still looking for that YouTube Fame that ultimately they believe will provide fortunes, we all know about Ryan’s toy review and we all know that it potentially brings in millions each month, that isn’t going to be you and me, it is a harsh lesson to learn, but it’s something that you need to pick up on now and get over,  so whilst again not all these should be viewed with suspicion the fact is you need to have a good look at the videos, if you have videos that have a constant background that’s usually got a Lamborghini or a Ferrari or something else in it it never seems to move the chances are it’s a blue screen and it’s been fake, one of the things the internet has provided to a lot of people is the ability to manipulate their audience into believing of variety of things, what used to be the exclusive right of TV and video and film was the ability to have blue screens have sound over the top, it was a world of make believe, these systems and software abilities have now fallen through to normal people and by normal people I mean that are not in those Industries, I’m not saying their advice isn’t worthwhile what I’m saying is be careful of somebody who is trying to tell you how to make money when they haven’t managed to do it  themselves.

The people that are never going to make you usually the ones that shout the loudest, usually the ones that are pulling down other YouTubers, other entrepreneurs or shouting about how their scheme works better than everybody else’s, they can make you $1,000 an hour by sitting around and doing nothing, here is the best piece of advice anybody can ever give you, there is no thousand dollars an hour by sitting around doing nothing, you have had to at least put into major work previously to the sitting around, in order for that to happen,  the biggest annoyance and the one that I believe you should take into consideration with these people, is that the one thing they are doing is they are wasting your time by making you watch the video to the end just so that they can get there six or seven advert breaks in between and try and get you to watch it off an advert so they get paid.

The conclusion in this case, is actually fairly simple whilst I have waxed slightly lyrical about my disdain for certain people within the industry what I really want to do, is to pass on the stuff that I am learning as I go,  genuinely,  the company that I am trying to put together GFPharma,  is a genuine company, I have sourced genuine good quality products in order to promote and sell, this is not to provide a training course for people to learn how to market stuff it isn’t to provide some kind of YouTube presence that provides me money, so am I going to put adverts on YouTube videos if I do some? of course I am why wouldn’t I? and if you don’t put them on yours then well you missing a trick, my point is is there are certain people that like to keep these things a mystery and I’m not one of them, the internet is a huge huge Market Place there is enough room for pretty much everybody, as industry shifts times change people gravitate towards different Industries, different ways of making money, different employment, the internet is the one thing that will move faster than society,  all you have to do is keep up, if you do that you will find a way to make a very comfortable living for yourself and your family that will  help to support you during old age.

Cutting through the Bull and making money

Firstly let me begin buy a couple of admissions, the first one being that I have been away for quite some time, this is because like many other people I have had to stop and and try and work out what I’m actually going to do to make money.

The problem with life is this, whilst money shouldn’t be everything to you it is of course the main driving factor for the majority of us because it directly relates to your quality of life.

Before we go any further, one thing I have learnt and one thing you are going to have to learn is that there is absolutely nothing new to be done,  well that’s not strictly true, but the chances of anybody coming up with something revolutionary and new that’s going to take the world by storm is actually pretty slim, in fact is really megaslim, majority of businesses these days are just simply people advertising the same product and the same services just in a different way to attract different people.

My Point

So that is what brought me to my first point which is this post,  I’m going to attempt to add my “ my value”  to society and to the community of people who are also looking to make money by documenting, to a certain extent how I put together the supplement company and how I ultimately try and make money from it.

This isn’t someone who has made millions and is now trying to sell you the way they did it, this is literally somebody who is trying to make millions documenting what I think are the important parts, the ways to avoid the pitfalls and how you ultimately make money.

My Reasoning

The reason I decided to do it this way and simply because when I do become or if I become wealthy the last thing I want to be doing is YouTube videos rubbing everybody’s face in it turning around and saying, “oh look at me I’ve got so much money this is how I make money” because frankly I find most of them cringeworthy, I mean let’s be honest you’ve got some millionaire shouting at you about how you’re not doing enough you need to believe in yourself more you need to stay up all night and sleep all day and if you’re not? well how can you expect to make money,

How Many of Them Did ?

I would genuinely like to go back some of these people and how they began and see really did they stay up all night I mean the only one I actually believe if I’m being honest is Elon Musk because frankly that guide you just crazy enough to have stopped up all night working on his website and then slept all day.

My first little Pearl of wisdom is, we haven’t all got time to sit down and type out line after line after line of text in order to keep a Blog in fact actually that’s why I haven’t been posting anything recently because I’ve also been concentrating other things, however, Google Docs speech to text, if you can get past it’s obvious shortcomings and realise that you have to do a little bit of editing as well, is a godsend frankly, give it a try set yourself up you can literally write out blog posts in as much time as it takes for you to speak them, it’s easier because  unless you are gifted at typing speech flows a lot easier than typing,  and this is especially true in my case!

The only thing I would say is like everything else in life it seems to have an issue with my accent I don’t know why this is, everybody seems to struggle with with my accent and seems to miss what I’m trying to say but in the interest of full disclosure this entire blog post was actually done within 10 minutes, it was done through Google Docs speech to text and it was edited (hopefully not too badly) after, so that is my one tip of the day really if I’m being perfectly honest it’s not much of a tip, frankly you could Google it and find it out yourself.

I would imagine quite a lot of people are using speech to text because I think some of the the rate of content that comes out is shocking and I was wondering how people kept up, of course that is to say that some people will be using it and other people are just really talented at typing content and I’m not gonna take anything away from them I’m not gifted at typing, it has been argued in the past I’m not naturally gifted at speaking either so I’m going to leave this here, please leave a comment if you want to.

I’m going to go back over it now and try and edit it and make sure it makes sense and flows properly and I will be looking to do more of these as I continue building the supplement company which is GFPharma.co.uk  should anybody want to check it out,  I will just leave you with this one comment though.

Final Thoughts

My original thought was too to try and find something different, something that I could sell or something that I could do that was different to everybody else which meant I was going to become a millionaire overnight,  I wasted 2 years looking for this and I mean that I literally wasted 2 years looking for it, my opinion ( and it is just my opinion ) is that’s the wrong thing to do,

if you are destined to create something new that’s going to revolutionize the world you won’t have to look for it, when you look back through history at the people that do this they’ve been doing it since they were they were children that it’s a natural thing,

Making money however, is not a natural gift it’s the application of advertising, that’s literally it, you could have the best product in the world literally the best product in the world and if you can’t sell it it’s not worth anything but people queue up they literally burn the servers down at Wish to buy stuff which is badly manufactured is not what it says in the picture it turns up three-and-a-half months later,

In a world where people are leaving the High Street in order to order from Amazon so they can get it within 24-hours people will sit and wait 3 1/2 weeks, months, years whatever it is for wish to deliver because they sell us the promise of money off the products we really want.

That’s my point, my point is create something good yes,  concentrate on learning how to sell it because that’s where people either succeed or fail.

Good luck all and I’ll talk to you next time I’m hopeful it will be sooner rather than later.

Too Cheap to Succeed ?

This is going to sound like a whinge of a post but I assure you it is not, it is, rather, a warning to anybody starting or attempting to start a blog as a way of making money spurred on by the many articles on the internet (usually other blogs like this one) claiming that it is a good way to turn spare time into a passive income, as I move further forward in this journey to what I am still convinced is achievable, the realities of this are becoming more and more obvious, and it isn’t rosy I can tell you.

I started this blog and all my activities at the start of this year, I have had many distractions and issues along the way but essentially the outcome is completely my own doing, I was too cheap with both time and money and spent too much time trying to find a way to post more and more content cheaply believing that quantity would alone see me through to a success, when in fact the opposite is true, we have all seen the constant posters re-cycling the same blog posts a few days or at most a week apart hoping that nobody would notice or that at least the views would attract more readers and hits and ad revenue, I wonder sometimes how successful they really are, now I can almost hear the cries of “but I do not do this for the money simply for the art” or the expression or to educate, in fact any lofty ethical reason they can hide behind shielding themselves from the fact that it really hasn’t made any money or even shows a glimmer of hope of doing so, preferring instead to keep hoping for that one article that goes viral or that captures enough people that they will do the advertising for them by sharing the post and exponentially increasing the reader numbers.

Anybody that wants to make money will add advertising to their site in one form or another, either through the annoying ads in the sidebar that you seed displayed all over this site (lol) or through their own affiliate links or simply through the promise of exclusive content for the exchange of a mailing with a Paypal donation link, it is all advertising as it is designed to illicit money from the reader, when people actually want to convey a message or provide a service (in whatever form that takes) to the general public completely free of charge and simply to educate and help they do not advertise as there is no need to add a distraction, they do not include garish advertisements for the reader to click on as this would detract from the message they are trying to impart.

But putting the advertising on the site is far from enough, in fact it is not even enough to be counted as the beginning, the beginning is the idea it is the focus of the blog, people will spend money this is not a surprising fact and with the reach of the internet there are a lot of people that can spend a lot of money with you and make you very rich but they aren’t going to give it away, you and your corner of the internet are not a charity (unless you are of course) and you cannot expect money for nothing.

Real Money

I am so fond of the phrase “Real Money” that sometimes it even gets under my skin, I say it nearly everyday in nearly every conversation that I have about money and for the sake of repetition I will say it again here, there is money and there is MONEY and to be honest very rarely shall the twain ever meet, what I mean is that when we say somebody has money we are invariably saying this in response to the visible assets that a person has, their car, house, clothes and to a greater or lesser extent their leisure activities, we evaluate based on a surface reflection of a snapshot of their life, and when they have a nice car and a big house and we wave them off on the next international adventure or follow their Instagram posts with green eyed envy we see what we want to see, success and money, but it is at night when these people are alone that the real story is told, you see money has a way of taking control of thoughts and feelings, it squeezes out loved ones and relationships and ultimately it chokes the life out of us and we find ourselves drowning in a sea of debt that there is no escape from, at night when the car is parked outside the house or the holiday activities are over and the rest of the family are asleep is where the dread of the next credit card bill comes in, the feeling of that slow march toward retirement with no savings starts to suggest that it is time you stopped spending all this money on interest payments to credit providers and started trying to master money, after all people do it and you are no different right? having money actual money under control and working for you as opposed to the other way round is all of the above without the feeling of dread and fear creeping in at night, it is the handing over of the debit card instead of the credit card for holidays and luxury goods, it is the sitting down and studying your money at the end of the month with a smile and a coffee just to see how things are going and how much you can invest this month rather than sitting down with a Gin and a Valium and hoping there is enough to stop you having to borrow more just to prop up the nice car and house, it is the enjoyed kiss from a partner at night and whatever may follow as opposed to the awkward good night and rolling over with both of you wondering what you have done to upset the other, it is the tolerance with children as they learn and grow breaking things and making mistakes along the way, as opposed to freaking out and going way over the top at every pen mark we find on the couch that costs us £150 a month is finance payments, money has the ability to help us grow and provide a life for future generations long after we have gone or it has the power to pull a family apart and destroy the future for generations, remember ultimately we become the product of our parents, If you think about a lot of your habits and personality traits now you will realise that most if not all stem from learned behaviour in our childhoods.

Other Peoples Blogs

Firstly a word about mine, I have been doing it for around a year now and am coming up to nearly my 100th post, the maths itself does not add up to a whole load of commitment does it ? so far it is earned me the princely sum of $0.38c, I am not going to retire on this and I do not expect it to grow much more without some kind of catalysing event, but I do have faith, I have faith in numbers and the numbers on the internet are huge, it is true that with the internet age ANYBODY can make a million, but it is also true that very few ever will.

So I did a simple Google search for successful WordPress blogs, and found a fantastic site here that has an almost unique field within their table of success EXPENSES seriously take a look, the information on here is worthy of just being posted out as a link rather than just as a part of this longer article which I am not sure anybody will have made it down to this point anyhow, and this is literally the reason why my blog sucks ass and (although I cannot speak for anybody else) the reason why a lot of people struggle month after month make no money and give up, the sites listed here make enough money for the people to do it as a job, sit at home or wherever they choose, write and then let the Internet take the strain, and the magic ingredient is EXPENSES, they are all spending money to make money, an example is Pat Flynn, 8 years he has been at it and his reported income for December 2017 ? $167,553.31, his expenses for this month $39.647.21 and his profit (before the dreaded Taxman obviously) an amazing $127.906.10 and when you see the website it is obvious why, the attention to presentation, the fact that his courses are available in both video and written on the blog, this probably means that he has a reasonable income from YouTube as well, They are all on there, Cookery Blogs, Entrepreneur blogs and of course Affiliate Marketing Blogs, and here I am with my 38c, I do not even have a business plan subscription and due to lack of activity my Amazon Affiliates account is suspended, this is because I failed to invest in my own project and my own future.

How to Invest ?

Investing comes on many forms, and most of these we are unwilling to do, we have to spend time researching content, or trying new things out so we can report our findings in a manner that provides value to others, as something of no value has no value and how can you expect to get paid for something that has no value?

You need to invest money, the plan I have does not allow plugins, so I cannot carry out any SEO for my site, none, I write articles like this and hope that people will stumble across them through reader or something like that, and they do, I have an amazing (for my investment level) 162 followers , but with the correct SEO and the ability to get hits from Google organically there would a thousand times that if not more just based on the sheer numbers of people searching for the subject matter I write about.

And you need to invest commitment, if work obligations dictate that you can only do one or two posts or articles a week then commit to that and make those two articles the best researched that you can, go into the ins and outs and the ups and downs and provide a real body if information or guidance to your audience that they can connect with and more importantly that they will want to bookmark and come back to, or even better subscribe.

And finally invest YOU, don’t write about something just because you think it is going to be popular or because it seems lucrative for the moment, writing is about more, it is more personal, and if the words come from a genuine passion or a genuine desire to help others and impart information people will listen.

Conclusion

I have ranted on at length about a lot of failings within blogging and trying to make a passive income on the internet through blogging, the fact is there is no such thing as a passive income through blogging unless you get somebody else to do it for you, but the is a massive difference between having to start writing at 5am before you go to work and being able to sit down at home after dropping the kids off at school and writing what you want in an unhurried manner, or if you don’t have kids fitting your writing in around going to the gym or whatever it is that you can now afford to do, Blogs are still way of making a very good income, you just have to rpovide something worth buying, and never fall into the trap of thinking that “If you build it they will come” cos they may turn up but if they leave without buying into your message you will be just as skint as you were yesterday and a lot more tired.

Procrastination is the single biggest hurdle most of us face, in this quick post I found an interesting article on how to avoid it, essentially my plan is for the foreseeable future to make sure that where practical I put action into thoughts, instead of trying to find ways to put thoughts into action.

Building a better 2020

So we are entering the final months of 2019, and I can bet that for the vast majority of us we are no further forward than we were this time last year and for some of us we may actually be worse off, and that will be further exacerbated by the up coming festive season and the pressure from both the media and advertisers as well as the personal pressure you put on yourself to spend money on presents and entertainment for your children or yourselves, often on credit cards or over-draughts or worse still loans, this time of year is really a hunting ground for capitalists and vultures looking to tie you into agreements that mean next year you will have to come back for more.

It is not our fault, advertisers and social media put us in positions that we simply cannot escape, and we borrow in order to “keep up” with the neighbours or our work colleagues be it through our children’s activities or through the car on the driveway, holidays, clothes even sports and hobbies all say something about us and our ability to pay out money, this is all well and good but what happens when you can no longer work? I don’t mean if something were to happen to you right now, more the inevitable end, Retirement we are all heading there and most of us with nothing planned to see us through.

I would like to push for another type of new years resolution, it will be something we are going to achieve in our house, that is instead of the standard “no chocolate” or “go back to the gym” both of which normally only last a couple of months before we find ourselves sitting on the couch eating chocolate while we should be at the gym, we are going to be working toward reducing debt and becoming more financially intelligent, after all how can you expect to master something without knowing how it works ?

Some startling statistics are that the average UK debt is £31k per adult! that is shocking and although I don’t know anybody quite there I am aware of people near that threshold, when you put that against the average UK household income of £28k the gap is clear to see, and of course as this comprised of borrowed money the interest is also staggering, an average of £967 in interest alone paid last year for every Brit.

All economies run on the least paid individuals, this is the case universally, as these economies are propped up on debt, the circle is vicious and relentless and designed to make it difficult to break, but not impossible.

Firstly bear this in mind, there are debt charities and advisories that offer free and payed advice to people struggling with debt, but this advice in my opinion is flawed beyond belief, the basic advice is centred around either declaring bankruptcy or entering into a sponsored agreement where you declare to the world that you are nearly bankrupt and asking for them to freeze all your accounts and let you pay off the balances, but let’s think that through for a moment,

  • Bankruptcy – Stays on your credit file for 6 years, and will affect your credit rating for much much longer, so let’s say that you have reached the point where you believe that is an option, you would normally be around 30 years old and may possibly have a mortgage, so you would need to sell the house and use the equity to repay debtors, everybody is made aware of the Bankruptcy as it is public information, and it will have to be declared when you apply for housing with private landlords, any credit over the value of £500 and could remain for longer based on how long it takes to become discharged, at the very best based on a 30 year old this means you are 36 when discharged and paying through the nose for credit while you try and rebuild a credit rating, then at around 40 you are able to start re-building your life and possibly look to buy a home again, all the while having to declare that you have been a bankrupt and paying higher interest for the rest of your life, this doesn’t sound like a good option to me.
  • IVA – Individual voluntary arrangement, this is a fixed term of between 60 and 72 months (so 5 years at best) possibly 6 and the conditions are no more relaxed, you will still have to sell any assets you have to pay into the IVA and then you are still the same age when you start to re-build your life.

And of course you could just bury your head in the sand and do nothing, but that leads to all manner of issues and most of these will ironically cost you more money because you are always viewed as not wanting to pay as opposed to not being able to pay and this is despite the fact that you haven’t got enough money for the initial debt.

The first steps in my opinion are to understand the nature of the debt, how much actually is it ? how much is the interest and how much am I paying off the capital ? often these questions are not asked and people simply start at the least amount and try to pay that off while struggling to keep up the payments on a debt that is costing them a fortune in interest every month.

Work out how much your utilities actually cost, it is surprising how many times we just simply pay the regular estimated payment without question and then are excited when the company gets in touch to tell us that as we have overpaid we can either claim the money back or allow it to be credited to our next bill (most companies assume this by default) under these circumstances we view this as good will on the part of the company but actually that money could have been better spent on a debt reduction rather than sitting in an energy companies account gaining interest.

Not everybody of course will be affected by the previous examples but I guarantee that if you are reading this you are either trying to make money to be more comfortable or you are stuck in a financial rut and are desperately trying to get out, what I am trying to illustrate is that lack of knowledge is often the most costly mistake we make, when we look at people that are financially savvy what we are actually seeing is people that have worked out how to not give all their money away, they look for value in expenditure and they look for return on debt, if you have a house that provides more rental income than the mortgage outgoing then this is good debt, if you consume any service or utility make sure that you are only paying for what you take, and never take anybodies word as gospel always check yourself where possible so you can say with certainty that you know how much you are getting charged and why.

Conclusion

As human beings we are forces of nature, we have the proven ability to change the world and explore other worlds, we can create our own futures, and deal with our pasts, capable of great acts of kindness and huge atrocity the human drive and spirit is the most voracious and uncompromising force known to man.

Make a list of every thing that is keeping you awake at night and worrying you in the morning, everything that makes you snap at family and friends because you are pre-occupied when they speak to you and realise that you do have the power to change it, end the cycle of debt by not taking anymore out, pay off credit cards quickly and realise that if you can’t do that then you can’t afford the lifestyle you are leading, but if you put that lifestyle to one side for a single year you may very well be able to afford a much better one, and not pay somebody else for the privilege.

Obviously I am not a financial adviser and any situation should be looked at on an individual basis to determine the correct course of action, but you cannot lose if you find a way to pay less interest to lenders, and borrow money or goods on inflated interest because we haven’t got a “perfect credit score”.

Amazon Seller – free guide to get started.

There are hundreds of courses out there to help you become an Amazon seller and on the whole they cost thousands to access, I know that you only get out of life what you put in but that does not mean we need to over extend ourselves or use money unnecessarily to learn something that can be picked up for free, sure if you were to be paying a couple of hundred pounds for a course then it would probably save you that much in errors further down the line, but when we start talking four and five thousand dollars then I really do think you would have to really screw up on a monumental scale to even up the balance.

I am not saying that these courses are all worthless, I am just pointing out that they are expensive and the majority of us have been driven to look for a side hustle or a change in income streams through lack of available funds, not through and abundance of money and boredom.

So I started looking around to see if there were any free reliable alternatives to some of the expensive courses, and I found this site https://tinuiti.com/blog/amazon/sell-on-amazon-uk/ the guide seems really thorough and one of the first things that I noticed was that I actually had no idea of the prerequisites of opening a seller account on Amazon, I also found another site as an alternative to Junglescout this is https://sellics.com they not only have a 14 day trial offer but they have some free resources including keyword search for your chosen products.

Another challenge I have is the US centric nature of this business, so I will be spending some time researching how much of an impact this will actually have on me as a UK resident and if there are any workarounds to those issues.

Turns out there are, in future posts I will going through setting up my seller account from a UK perspective and hopefully making a profit.

That’s all for now…….

You do need to be number 1 – trust me.

Popular culture has told us for years now that we do not have to be the best at what we do or strive to do, our education systems have largely developed a process by which the class progresses at the speed of the slowest pupil, this is has resulted in over inflated school ratings as the overall bar is lowered and a decrease in specialist subjects being taught at all as they give way to more general subjects that are harder to grade effectively as the factors for evaluation become vast through diversification of the subject matter.

But who actually suffers from this new way of working ? the educators and the governments around the world will have you believe that it makes for a more level playing field, that this kind of broad baseline teaching provides all pupils with the same opportunities, but the reality is something quite different, you see by creating an environment where everybody is taught at the same level in the same way with no recognition of aptitude does not create a level playing field rather it holds back the pupils that would excel and invariably gets them the reputation of troublemaker as boredom sets in, or it highlights the shortcomings of pupils that haven’t got an aptitude for the subject in front of a jury of the cruellest peers, children, so you can see how this is detrimental to both parties, the children that are bored have their future coloured by the term troublemaker, and are treated accordingly and the struggling kids start to lack confidence and become either shy or overly overt as a compensation, both scenarios achieve the exact opposite of the intended result.

This is largely a product of lack of money in the system, and in most cases a spin put on that lack of funding by governments trying to juggle ever decreasing budgets and ever increasing debt, but the irony here is that a countries wealth is a product of it’s population and it’s capability to participate on the world stage, so effectively we stay in a loop forevermore where we do not invest in youth to provide a better future for all, instead we choke the education system and make the youth fight for a future that is uncertain, and we wonder why they lack motivation.

This level playing field extends into adulthood as well, the evidence is excessive, people that did not do well at school becoming billionaires such as Sir Alan Sugar, 1 GCSE and he is worth 1.4 Billion, Steven Spielberg was rejected from film school initially, Deborah Meaden of Dragons Den fame left school before her A-levels and is now worth over 40 Million, and Sarah Millican Failed hers, what sets these people apart is that they pursued what they wanted to do and they did it with a goal in mind, to be the number 1 in their chosen field, now with the vast majority of these examples it could be argued if they are number one in their fields, possibly some people might not find Sarah Millican funny, or there may be people with more money than Deborah Meaden, but if we think about it we would all like to be a pound behind them, or make it as a performer, we just had it beaten out of us in our youth.

That is why I say you DO need to be number one, in your own mind at least, you need to strive everyday to be number one at what you want to do, because if you don’t believe that people in most cases excel at what it is they want to do then just Google around for a while, in fact very few of the most successful people in this world have got a strong academic background, that is not to say that academia is worthless, far from it, the world runs on the work of academics, and without them we would still be in the caves trying to get a fire going, my point is that equality is not only a good thing to try and achieve in society but the only thing, we just have to remind ourselves what it actually means.

Equality should mean the opportunity to excel and be successful, to not live a life in fear and poverty, to not eek out an existence daily just waiting for the cold hand of the reaper, it SHOULD mean the opportunity to live a good and happy life regardless of age, race, religion, ability or sexual orientation, and I think that as a society we have forgotten that, we need people to fall within a budget or a qouta, and the only way to make people fit into statistics is to manipulate the system until those people appear, the fact is nobody is going to do it for you, if you want the life you see when you close your eyes at night you are going to have to fight for it no matter what that takes.

So that is why I say that you need to be number ONE in your own mind that is what you are striving for, don’t look at your heroes and claim that you can’t get there because they have a natural talent, don’t let yourself off the hook by saying they are just better than me, substitute Talent for Aptitude, and Better for More Hardworking, to say that a person is a NATURAL TALENT is often to negate the huge amount work and dedication that they put in everyday to get where they are, and if you put in the same amount of work everyday you would get there too, the education system may have failed you (it equally may not have failed you too) but if you want greatness stop the excuses given to us by a society that has lost it’s ambition, and drive yourself to be Number One at what you want to do, and you will find happiness, some careers are better paid than others and some jobs too, but I promise if you are the best at what you do, at least within your peer group, then you will find a happiness and a calm that goes along with doing something you love.

Work Until you Die? or make a stand now ?

This article confirms what I have thought for some time now, we need to make a stand because for most of us the future is set in stone and it is cold, hard and very unpleasant.

Following on – “Now I’m Not Saying………”

I wanted to follow on from the rant that I had yesterday regarding certain individuals on YouTube and Instagram taking the time out of my hands as they pitch their way through all the free B******t to get to the upsell, I am not saying that you can not make money any other way, I am simply saying that Shopify Stores, Amazon Affiliates, FBA, and Drop Shipping are not the way to go (in my opinion) they are tired and oversubscribed and yes the people on the screen probably did make a lot of money from them, but this was because they got in at the bottom, look at them all, most of the Bio’s contain the phrase I struggled for ages until I discovered this one system, the system is not rocket science, they did not discover the wheel or fire, they simply made use of the tools that were created at that time, and from what I have heard these people owe most of their wealth to Jeff Bezos rather than to their brilliant acumen, there is of course nothing wrong with that but, if we stop for a moment, they can make thousands every day from a beach in Mexico, (another popular tagline) but instead they want to share this secret with you so you can mimic their success, problem is there is no “secret” anymore, my 9 year old daughter has alibaba app on her iPhone, and the same people watching your adverts and your facebook posts are also watching the Guru’s, this means that their desperate attempts to draw people in is also one of the huge contributors to why your drop shipping or your Shopify will fail, and to be fair the human race just isn’t that giving when it comes to money, I know that is difficult to swallow but it isn’t, the reason these courses (I use the term lightly) are being pushed is because they know that the space is becoming crowded and less profitable.

When I think of the time that I spent watching these videos, listening to the same advice over and over and setting up accounts it makes me seethe, instead I could have been researching how to finance a property business, learn how to build websites, coding or 100 other things that end with a product, You want to make money? then make something, build a product and use the Internet to it’s best advantage to market that product, or to make people aware that you have property to rent, or you have a service that will make their life easier.

Think about this, the world thanks to the Internet is a smaller place, barriers are broken down now in most places, if you built a property business you could live anywhere and provide homes or buy and sell anywhere in the world, I will explain how.

  • Website – Websites are available 24/7 365, and can be translated into any language automatically so you can be seen anywhere at anytime, with Twillio you can even get a local phone number that routes straight to your mobile anywhere in the world you have signal.
  • Property – Same the other way round, you can use local estate agents to find property and Google maps to even have a look around the surrounding area, there are also crime reports for most areas available online too.
  • Viewings – The Gig economy means that now you can for not much cash arrange for somebody to act as an agent in another part of your country or another country altogether if need be, no permanent employees just a one off cost, to be fair the estate agent will do the most work for you.
  • Management – Management companies exist everywhere that rental properties do, due diligence will give you an idea of the quality of the agency and if you just buy / sell then even better.

Now that was literally written in five minutes off the top of my head, so it would need some more consideration (probably quite a lot more) but you get my point, that is not rocket science, put it in a course and label it “Start a Million Dollar Global Property Business from Your Front Room” charge $999 dollars for it and BAM!

Of course it won’t work for most and you would have to skirt over the downsides to it as you wouldn’t want anybody to not pay.

My point really was that if you want money I mean Real Money create something of value and use the Internet as a vehicle to push that value, most of these courses will line pockets and bank accounts but seldom the course attendees.

Till next time……..
